New York:Shahriyar Hajiyev, First Secretary of the Permanent Mission of Azerbaijan to the United Nations, addressed the issue of missing Azerbaijani citizens at the fifth meeting of the Third Committee of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Hajiyev expressed that the fate of 71 children among over 4,000 people who disappeared in the early 1990s remains a significant humanitarian concern for Azerbaijan in the post-conflict period.
He further highlighted that the widespread contamination of landmines poses an additional threat to human lives, affecting both children and adults. Landmines deliberately planted since the 1990s have resulted in the death or severe injury of more than 3,400 individuals, including children and young people.
Hajiyev stressed that these humanitarian issues necessitate not only national efforts but also enhanced international cooperation.
