Azerbaijan Railways to Begin Restoration of Nakhchivan’s Railway Infrastructure

Aghdam: Azerbaijan is set to commence the restoration of Nakhchivan’s railway infrastructure, as announced during a significant event marking the launch of the Baku-Aghdam railway line. This line, which carried its first passengers today, is expected to enhance public transport accessibility in the Karabakh economic region and contribute to the socio-economic revival of Aghdam and its surroundings.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the restoration efforts in the liberated territories are not limited to the Barda-Aghdam railway. The construction of the Aghdam-Khankendi railway is already underway, with President Ilham Aliyev having laid the foundation stone for the Khankendi Railway and Bus Terminal Complex earlier this year. The complex is set to feature modern infrastructure and advanced technologies, with completion slated for the end of 2026.

Nijat Guliyev highlighted that railway infrastructure restoration is also progressing in the East Zangezur economic region. With substantial progress already made, earthworks and engineering construction for the Horadiz-Agbend railway line are actively ongoing. The project includes the construction of multiple stations and engineering structures, such as bridges and tunnels.

In addition, the groundwork for the Kars-Igdir-Aralik-Dilucu railway line in the Republic of Trkiye, which will connect to the Zangezur corridor at Nakhchivan’s border, has been established. This initiative underscores the priority status of restoring Nakhchivan’s railway infrastructure, with Azerbaijan Railways gearing up to initiate operations in this area promptly.
