Azerbaijan Pledges Support for Turkmenistan’s Neutrality University Under UN Auspices

Ashgabat: Azerbaijan is ready to actively participate in the work of Turkmenistan’s Neutrality University under the auspices of the UN, Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov stated at the plenary session of the international forum dedicated to the International Year of Peace and Trust (2025) in Ashgabat. The event also marks International Neutrality Day and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality.

According to Trend News Agency, Asadov emphasized Azerbaijan’s deep respect for Turkmenistan’s policy of permanent neutrality, which is officially recognized and supported by the UN. Over the past 30 years, Turkmenistan has demonstrated that neutrality is not merely a foreign policy stance but a transformative force contributing to peace, security, and sustainable development.

Asadov noted that Azerbaijan has consistently supported Turkmenistan’s resolutions on neutrality at the UN and has co-authored the resolution for the International Year of Peace and Trust – 2025. He described these initiatives by Turkmenistan as significant contributions to the global peace and security architecture. He further expressed Azerbaijan’s readiness to engage actively in the university’s work.

The prime minister also highlighted a recent event in June, where the Azerbaijan-Turkmenistan international scientific and practical symposium was held in Baku. This symposium was dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality and the International Year of Peace and Trust.

The ongoing International Forum in Ashgabat has drawn high-level delegations from around the world, including leaders from Russia, Trkiye, Iran, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Armenia, as well as the Prime Ministers of Azerbaijan and Georgia. Representatives from various international and regional organizations are also present.

Turkmenistan’s neutrality was officially recognized by a United Nations General Assembly resolution on December 12, 1995. This date is celebrated annually as Turkmenistan’s Permanent Neutrality Day, honoring the country’s diplomatic stance on the global stage.
