Baku: Azerbaijan is set to implement a nationwide metering system for its drinking water supply, with a target to achieve 90 percent metering this year, 95 percent in the following year, and reach full coverage by 2027. This strategic initiative was a key focus during the opening session of the 2nd International Water Management Exhibition and Conference, known as Baku Water Week, held in the capital city.
According to Trend News Agency, Azerbaijan is also undertaking several measures to address the demand for drinking and household water. The country aims to meet 72 percent of its water demand this year, with plans to increase this capability to 90 percent by 2030 and to fully satisfy demand by 2040.
In tandem with metering efforts, Azerbaijan is working on reducing water losses in the drinking supply system. This year, efforts are directed to decrease losses by 35 percent, with a goal to further reduce losses to 33 percent by 2027, and ultimately to 20 percent by 2040.
