Azerbaijan keeps leading women’s event at European Team Chess Championship 2023


In Women’s section, the team of Azerbaijan has been held to a draw by France, scoring 7 match points and to tie for the top with France and Germany at the European Team Chess Championship 2023 held in Budva, Montenegro.

The R4 saw Gunay Mammadzada to score a point for Azerbaijan, while Govhar Beydullayeva and Gulnar Mammadova sign a draw, and Khanim Balajayeva lose the match.

In Open section, Azerbaijani players lost to Croatia by a score of 1.5-2.5, with Shahriyar Mammadyarov achieving a point, while Rauf Mammadov finished in a draw, and Vasif Durarbayli and Teymur Rajabov concluded the match with no match points.

The R4 will see Azerbaijani male players to take on Montenegro, while the female players will lock horns with Germany.

The 9-round Swiss tournament will run until November 21.
