Azerbaijan Increases Heating Tariffs to Reduce State Subsidies

BAKU: In a significant move to adjust energy pricing, Azerbaijan has announced an increase in tariffs for heating supply services provided to its population. The Tariff Council has formalized this change, marking the first adjustment since 2011, as reported by APA.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the cost price for heating supply services under “Az?ristilikt?chizat” OJSC is 1.10 AZN per square meter. However, payments have remained at 0.15 AZN per square meter over the past decade, with the difference being subsidized by the state budget. The new decision sets the tariff at 0.30 AZN per square meter per month for services without a meter and at 14.6 AZN per Gcal for metered services, covering approximately 40-50 square meters.

The adjustment aims to reduce the dependency on state budget subsidies, expand the reach of heating services, and enhance service quality. The tariff realignment represents a shift towards a more sustainable soft tariff policy, reflecting the government’s commitment to optimizing public service efficiency.
