Azerbaijan Extradites Kazakh Citizen to UAE on Serious Charges


Baku: A citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Zhanbolat Serikov, born in 1985, has been extradited to the United Arab Emirates. The UAE authorities had declared him internationally wanted on charges of kidnapping, unlawful deprivation of liberty, threats to kill, intentional infliction of serious bodily harm, and acts of sexual violence. Serikov was located in Azerbaijan in January of this year. Following a request by the Prosecutor General’s Office, a pre-trial detention measure was applied against him, the Prosecutor General’s Office informed APA.



According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the extradition request submitted by the UAE authorities was supported by the Prosecutor General’s Office of Azerbaijan at all levels of the judiciary. This included the first instance, appellate, and cassation courts.



Based on the extradition agreement in force between Azerbaijan and the UAE, and in accordance with a decision by the Baku Court on Grave Crimes, Zhanbolat Serikov was handed over to UAE law enforcement authorities. The transfer was conducted under the escort of a special convoy from the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice.
