Azerbaijan Develops Roadmap for AI in Agriculture

Baku: Azerbaijan is set to launch a comprehensive roadmap for the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in its agricultural sector, as announced by Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov during the Baku Climate Action Week (BCAW2025). This initiative is being developed in collaboration with international partners and is planned to span two years.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the roadmap will feature more than 30 practical use cases, targeting areas such as crop diversity mapping, soil monitoring, yield prediction, and water-saving irrigation. Pilot projects are already underway and are expected to be expanded nationwide. These AI-driven tools aim to assist farmers in making informed decisions, enhancing sustainability, and generating economic value over time.

Minister Mammadov highlighted the importance of coupling smart agriculture with sustainable water and soil management. He emphasized the necessity of modernizing irrigation systems, particularly in Azerbaijan’s semi-arid regions, by investing in climate-resilient water systems. Additionally, he mentioned that today’s discussions will address the integration of transport and smart city development to support these efforts by minimizing emissions and creating greener, more efficient supply chains.
