Baku: The circle of convicts whose sentences will be reduced by six months as a result of an amnesty application has been narrowed down, APA reports. This development was highlighted in the draft parliamentary resolution on declaring an amnesty on the occasion of the “Year of Constitution and Sovereignty.” The initiative, proposed by President Ilham Aliyev, was discussed at a recent meeting of the Milli Majlis Committee on Legal Policy and State Building.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the draft outlines that the sentences of specific categories of convicts will be reduced by six months. This reduction applies to individuals sentenced to imprisonment for a fixed term for less serious crimes, provided the unserved portion of their sentence does not exceed one year by the time the resolution is enacted. Additionally, it includes those sentenced to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years for crimes committed through negligence. However, individuals who are not eligible for amnesty under the law “On Restrictions on the Application of Amnesty Acts” will be excluded from this sentence reduction.
