Azerbaijan Commemorates Day of Khankandi, Khojaly, Khojavand, and Aghdara

Baku: Azerbaijan observes the Day of Khankandi, Khojaly, Khojavand, and Aghdara on 20 September, as reported by APA. This day is officially recognized following an order signed by President Ilham Aliyev on 18 September 2024.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the observance aims to ensure compliance with the provisions of a trilateral statement intended to prevent provocations in the Karabakh economic region. The objectives include disarming and withdrawing Armenian armed forces from Azerbaijan’s territories, neutralizing military infrastructure, and ensuring the safety of civilians returning to liberated territories. Additionally, it aims to protect civilian workers and military personnel involved in reconstruction efforts and restore constitutional order.

Local anti-terrorist measures were initiated on 19 September 2023 at approximately 1:00 PM. These operations concluded successfully, leading to the restoration of Azerbaijan’s sovereignty over the region. Subsequently, on 28 September 2023, the self-p
roclaimed entity in the Karabakh region announced its dissolution, marking the end of the so-called ‘Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.’

On 15 October 2023, President Ilham Aliyev raised the national flag of Azerbaijan in the towns of Khankendi, Aghdara, Khojaly, Khojavand, and in the settlement of Askeran in Khojaly district, at the Sarsang reservoir, symbolizing the nation’s sovereignty and unity.
