Azerbaijan Bans Patent Recognition for Human Clones and Cloning Methods

Baku: A human clone will not be recognized as a patent object in Azerbaijan, APA reports. This decision is part of an amendment to the Law on Patents, which has been implemented through a decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the law states that methods of human cloning and human clones, methods of modifying the genetic integrity of human germ line cells, and the use of human embryos for industrial purposes will not be recognized as patent objects. This move reflects Azerbaijan’s stance on the ethical considerations surrounding human cloning and genetic modification.
