Baku: Azerbaijan has approved legislative amendments concerning the protection of children’s rights. President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, has signed a decree to enact the changes.
According to Trend News Agency, the decree revises the definition of ‘guardianship and custodial authority.’ Responsibilities for children who have lost their parents or are deprived of parental care will now be managed by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population (MLSPP) if they are placed with foster families or under provisions of the Family Code. In other situations, commissions on the protection of children’s rights will serve as the authorized body. This clarification has been applied to various laws.
The decree further amends presidential orders related to the ‘Mediation’ law and the law on combating HIV-related diseases. Certain provisions have been updated to align with new legal regulations, while others have been repealed. Previous decrees concerning the application of the Family Code and the Civil Code have been updated to replace earlier references with ‘commissions on the protection of children’s rights.’
The decree tasks the Cabinet of Ministers with ensuring the proper implementation of legal provisions from the laws. The State Herald has approved the law to ensure the execution of the decree.
