Washington: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with U.S. President’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff in Washington to discuss bilateral relations and regional issues. The meeting was marked by the signing of a ‘Memorandum of Cooperation’ between the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) and ExxonMobil.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the memorandum was signed by Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and John Ardill, Vice President of ExxonMobil, in the presence of President Ilham Aliyev and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff. This agreement is expected to enhance collaboration in the energy sector between the two nations.
Following the signing, President Aliyev and Envoy Witkoff held discussions emphasizing the strategic cooperation prospects between Azerbaijan and the United States. The talks also covered the normalization process between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the broader regional peace agenda. President Aliyev’s visit to Washington, at the invitation of U.S. President Donald Trump, was seen as a significant step in addressing these issues.
