Moscow: Azerbaijan and Russia are collaborating on a joint project to introduce electronic consignment notes (e-CMR) in cargo transportation, as announced by Natalya Zadonskaya, Deputy Director of the International Projects and Digitalization Department of the Russian ‘Directorate of International Transport Corridors’ JSC.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the project will be carried out under the ‘North-South’ international transport corridor framework and will test digital document circulation between the two nations. Zadonskaya emphasized their cooperation with all countries involved in the ‘North-South’ corridor, highlighting a pilot project with Azerbaijan focused on implementing e-CMR. Azerbaijan has also advocated for the introduction of electronic permits, a suggestion that Zadonskaya believes will be positively received by the Russian Federation.
Experts indicate that adopting the e-CMR system is a crucial advancement for tracking cargo, expediting customs and border crossing processes, and minimizing paper document usage.
