Azerbaijan Achieves Milestone with First Robot-Assisted Surgery at National Oncology Center

Baku: For the first time in Azerbaijan, a robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery has been successfully performed at the National Oncology Center under the Ministry of Health.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the robotic device, provided by China’s Kangduo company, marks a significant advancement in the nation’s medical capabilities. The National Oncology Center is the first facility in the country to install this cutting-edge technology.

Special training sessions were conducted prior to the surgery for all medical personnel, including doctors. These sessions were led by experts from Kangduo, who were invited from China and Kazakhstan to ensure the team was well-prepared. The first procedure carried out using this robotic technology was a robot-assisted hysterectomy. The initial stages of the operation were conducted by the General Director of the National Oncology Center, academician Jamil Aliyev, with subsequent stages completed by the center’s skilled doctors.

On September 24, the Minister of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Teymur Musayev, visited the National Oncology Center to observe the robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery process. He witnessed the technology’s potential to revolutionize surgical procedures in the country.

Academician Jamil Aliyev highlighted the benefits of this technology, noting its ability to provide emergency assistance with high precision from vast distances. This innovation ensures that patients in critical conditions are not limited by the medical capabilities available in their immediate vicinity. Instead, they can receive care from international-level doctors via robotic assistance.

The National Oncology Center plans to continue advancing robot-assisted surgery. Additional training sessions are scheduled, and there are plans to expand the use of this technology to new operations in the departments of gynecology, urology, abdominal surgery, and coloproctology.
