Armenian-Azerbaijani Discussions Open Path for Fuel Imports

Yerevan: Discussions have been held regarding fuel imports from Azerbaijan to Armenia, presenting opportunities for cooperation, Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan told the Armenian service of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. Grigoryan confirmed the recent talks in Gabala with Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev, focusing on the potential export of oil and petroleum products from Azerbaijan to Armenia.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, Deputy Prime Minister Grigoryan responded to inquiries from Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty about the progress of these discussions. He affirmed that there are indeed opportunities for cooperation between the two nations in this sector. However, details such as the volume of fuel imports, the specific Armenian companies involved, pricing, and competitiveness with Russian imports remain under market-based negotiations between private exporters and importers.

Grigoryan further addressed questions about other potential areas of mutual trade between Armenia and Azerbaijan. He indicated that discussions are ongoing, but refrained from providing specifics beyond the current focus on fuel imports.

Public acknowledgment of these discussions also came from the Azerbaijani side. Azerbaijani Presidential Assistant Hikmet Hajiyev stated that alongside the border delimitation process, the deputy prime ministers have been conversing about certain mutual trade areas, including the export of oil and petroleum products from Azerbaijan to Armenia.
