Baku:Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that the government has legal grounds to terminate the agreement with Russia concerning the management of Armenia’s railways.
According to Azeri-Press news agency, Pashinyan revealed in an interview with Infocom that the Armenian government possesses the necessary means and legal justification to end the concession agreement, should a political decision be made.
Despite these grounds, Pashinyan emphasized that the Armenian government prefers to resolve the situation amicably. He indicated that they have requested their Russian counterparts to sell the concession rights to a third country that would be mutually acceptable.
The railway system in Armenia has been managed by South Caucasus Railway, a subsidiary of Russian Railways, since 2008 under a 30-year concession agreement. This agreement includes an option for a 10-year extension.
