APFP Chairman Ali Karimli Arrested and Placed in Pre-Trial Detention

Baku: Ali Karimli, chairman of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (APFP), has been arrested and placed in pre-trial detention for a period of 2 months and 15 days. The decision was made following a review by the Sabail District Court after Karimli was detained by the State Security Service.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Ali Karimli faces charges under Article 278.1 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to actions aimed at seizing state power by force or forcibly changing the constitutional order. The investigation also involves Mammad Ibrahim, a member of the APFP’s Presidium, who, along with Karimli, was questioned by the State Security Service. The authorities conducted searches at their residences before taking them in for questioning.

The investigation linked to Karimli and Ibrahim is connected to a broader criminal case involving Ramiz Mehdiyev, the former head of the Presidential Administration. Mehdiyev is charged under multiple articles of the Criminal Code, including Article 278.1 for actions aimed at seizing state power, Article 274 for treason, and Article 193-1.3.2 for the legalization of property obtained through criminal means.
