American Authors Present “The War for Karabakh” Book in Baku

Baku:A presentation ceremony for the book “The War for Karabakh Strategy, Technology, and Victory” was held on November 3, organized by the Center of Analysis of International Relations and Multiculturalism and the Baku Book Center. The book, co-authored by retired US Army Colonel Liam Collins and Major John Spencer, delves into the historical context of the Garabagh conflict and examines the factors contributing to Azerbaijan’s triumph in the 44-day Patriotic War.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the American authors detailed the preparation process, research areas, and conclusions during the ceremony. They emphasized that the book was developed over nearly two years. Collins highlighted the significance of military potential strengthening, armed forces reforms, and improved combat capabilities as pivotal to Azerbaijan’s victory in the Second Garabagh War. He noted the importance of the quality and correct deployment of weapon systems. Spencer added that Azerbaijan’s operations during the war included UAV deployment, complex ground operations, troop coordination, and enemy misdirection.

The book stands as one of the first comprehensive foreign military studies of Azerbaijan’s victory, incorporating insights from experts at the United States Military Academy West Point. It covers the conflict’s historical roots, the First Garabagh War, and the 44-day Patriotic War, analyzing Azerbaijan’s preparation strategy, military operations in key districts, and anti-terrorist measures of 2023. It also critiques the notion that UAV deployment solely led to Azerbaijan’s victory, emphasizing the mastery of modern combat systems.

The research is supported by interviews with approximately 100 experts and on-site field research in significant battle areas. Special focus is given to the strategies of Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev, including his domestic and international communication efforts and combating disinformation.

Liam Collins serves as Director of the Madison Policy Forum and holds positions at New America’s Future Security Program and the Middle East Institute. His military background includes a range of deployments and advising roles. John Spencer is Chair of Urban Warfare Studies at the Modern War Institute at West Point, recognized for his expertise in urban warfare, and has advised military leaders globally.
