AI Use in Government Agencies Raises Concerns Over Data Security

Baku:The use of artificial intelligence in government agencies is increasing the risk of sensitive data leaks, according to Allahveran Ismayilov, Deputy Chief of the State Service for Special Communication and Information Security (SSSCIS). Speaking at the 8th Summit held in Baku, Ismayilov highlighted the dangers posed by the uncontrolled use of publicly available AI tools and the transfer of sensitive data to external platforms.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, Ismayilov noted that the heavy reliance on cloud services and third-party providers, combined with uncertainties about how AI systems collect, process, and store data, exacerbates security risks.

He further stated that implementing artificial intelligence is not a technological decision that can be made independently of information security considerations. Instead, it is a strategic issue that directly impacts an organization’s governance model, risk assessment, and data protection. Identifying and assessing risks associated with AI in government agencies is thus deemed crucial.
