51 Newly Discovered Monuments in Azerbaijan Registered by State

Baku: The State Service for the Protection, Development and Restoration of Cultural Heritage has announced that 51 newly discovered monuments in Azerbaijan have been officially registered by the state. This development follows the latest meeting of the Expert Council on the Identification of Immovable Cultural Assets under the Ministry of Culture.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the meeting was chaired by Professor Gulchohra Mammadova, Rector of the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction. She briefed the council on the critical issues discussed, notably the proposal to bring 25 objects of historical, architectural, and archaeological significance under state protection.

Sabina Hajiyeva, Head of the State Service, provided insights into the Expert Council’s ongoing efforts. To date, the council has deliberated on approximately 500 monuments, with expert opinions sourced from the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. The number of monuments for which expert reports have been prepared exceeds 2,000, with discussions on these findings occurring progressively in council meetings. The recent registration of 51 newly discovered monuments includes seven located in Baku and 44 in the liberated territories.

The council also considered the inclusion of 17 objects from the ‘Keshikchidag’ State Historical and Cultural Reserve, seven based on citizen applications, and one from the Gubadly district into the list of immovable historical and cultural monuments. Decisions were taken to implement appropriate measures for the registration of these significant historical, architectural, and archaeological sites.
