412 People Have Fallen Victim to Landmine Explosions in Azerbaijan Since 2020 War

Baku: Landmines continue to claim lives in Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, according to APA reports. Today, an employee of the Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA) was seriously injured by a landmine explosion on the border with Armenia. Since the end of the 44-days War of 2020, 412 people have become victims of landmine explosions. This humanitarian issue targets civilians, obstructs reconstruction efforts, and hinders safe returns, constituting a significant breach of international humanitarian law.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the incident occurred on November 17, 2025, in Bala Jafarli village of the Gazakh region, near the Armenian border. Samir Imamverdiyev, born in 1988, an employee of ANAMA, was injured due to an anti-personnel mine explosion while performing his duties. As a consequence, Imamverdiyev’s right leg was amputated at the ankle. He was evacuated to the district hospital, where his condition is reported as satisfactory, with no life-threatening danger.

The statement from the Ministry also underscores the urgent necessity for accelerated international support to facilitate comprehensive de-mining operations in the affected regions.
