Algiers: The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Algeria organized a commemorative event marking the 36th anniversary of the 20 January tragedy.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, leading Algerian media outlets, including ‘alharir.info’ and ‘El Fanek El Arabi’, published an article by Tural Rzayev, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Algeria. The article highlighted the 36th anniversary of the tragedy, emphasizing the Azerbaijani people’s struggle for freedom and independence. It detailed the events of the bloody terror committed by Soviet troops against peaceful Azerbaijani civilians and the forcible deportation of Azerbaijanis from their ancestral lands.
The ambassador’s article also discussed Azerbaijan’s victory in the Patriotic War in 2020 and the successful anti-terror measures in 2023, which resulted in Azerbaijan restoring its territorial integrity. Rzayev further elaborated on the country’s restoration efforts in the liberated territories and the relocation of former internally displaced persons to their native lands.
