WUF13-Related Public Transport Measures in Baku Unveiled

Baku: The Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency (AYNA), in collaboration with the WUF13 Operations Company, has implemented an extensive transport plan for the WUF13 forum, as reported by AYNA to APA. The plan includes the establishment of nine HUBs, two terminal points, and over 67 intermediate stops to facilitate the movement of participants.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, there are six routes running from Heydar Aliyev International Airport to designated locations, with an additional 12 routes operating during the event to transport participants to the forum venue. Electric buses are predominantly used for these services. AYNA’s monitoring center oversees the management and execution of these transport operations around the clock, with nearly 1,500 staff members, including drivers and management personnel, participating to ensure smooth operations.

The ‘Ayna MaaS’ application has been enhanced to allow users to plan trips on both event and public transport routes. In light of WUF13, public transport payments can now be made using foreign bank cards, and the app has been updated to include functionality for event routes.

Special traffic lanes, totaling 41.5 km, have been organized on six streets and avenues, accompanied by new road signs. Road markings have been restored on 34 streets and avenues, covering a total of 170 km, while newly laid asphalt on 19 streets and avenues has seen line restoration over 20 km. The city’s micromobility lanes have been extended to 63.2 km to connect various attraction points.

Parking spaces for small electric vehicles have been optimized, and operators are active at these locations. Conditions have been improved for WUF13 guests to comfortably travel short distances. The scooter fleet has been updated to allow registration with foreign mobile numbers for rentals. Additionally, the patrol system has been upgraded in connection with WUF13.

For event-related transportation, 150 vehicles from the ‘Baku Taxi’ service and 330 vehicles partnered with taxi operators for airport transport are involved. Drivers received special training, and meetings were held with taxi fleets regarding WUF13, and relevant instructions were provided. Taxis are permitted to operate in the stadium transport zone and at the ‘Koroglu’ Transport Interchange Center, with designated pick-up and drop-off points for event-related vehicles at ‘Terminal 2’ of the airport.
