Western Azerbaijan Community’s Letter to UN Secretary-General Circulated as Official Documents of the Organization

New York: The Western Azerbaijan Community has sent a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres concerning a speech made by Levon Ter-Petrosyan during his presidency in Armenia in 1993. In the speech, Ter-Petrosyan allegedly confirmed that ethnic cleansing and occupation were state policies of Armenia, describing the expulsion of Azerbaijanis from Armenia as a historic achievement, as reported by APA.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Western Azerbaijan Community stated that their letter, which highlights these claims as evidence of Armenia’s state policy being racist and criminal against humanity and peace, has been disseminated as official documents of the UN General Assembly and Security Council. The publication of this letter as official UN documents is significant for establishing Armenia’s accountability for these alleged crimes in the context of international law.

The Western Azerbaijan Community emphasized their ongoing efforts to bring this issue to the attention of regional organizations, the UN, and international non-governmental organizations that advocate for human rights.
