Turkmenistan Establishes National Renewable Energy Cadastre

Ashgabat: The Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan has officially approved the “Procedure for maintaining the state cadastre of renewable energy sources (RES) and using its data”, marking a significant step in the country’s renewable energy sector. This initiative aims to establish a national database that will systematically monitor Turkmenistan’s renewable energy potential.

According to Trend News Agency, the cadastre will function as a centralized system, housing comprehensive information on both potential and operational RES facilities. It will detail their installed capacity, annual energy production, and the producers categorized by administrative regions. Furthermore, the system will provide insights into the different types of renewable energy sources currently in use across the country.

The primary purpose of this system is to bolster state and regional programs focused on renewable energy. It aims to facilitate power supply to remote areas, assist in forecasting emissions reduction, and attract investments into the renewable energy sector. The establishment of the cadastre was supported by the European Union’s Sustainable Energy Linkages in Central Asia (SECCA) project.

The cadastre will be accessible both electronically on the Ministry of Energy’s website and in print form, with regular updates available to the public. However, access to certain data may be restricted by law. This initiative builds on previous efforts by the Ministry of Energy in 2025, where they approved additional regulatory documents based on SECCA’s recommendations. These documents addressed the guaranteed connection of renewable energy installations to the grid and set safety rules for power facilities.
