Shusha: Aydin Karimov, Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan in the Shusha district, announced during the event titled “Post-conflict Urban Development: Restoring a Destroyed Identity and Rebuilding an Integrated Future” that a total of 27 monuments have been restored in Shusha. The event was organized at the Azerbaijan pavilion within the framework of WUF13.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Karimov highlighted that restoration and reconstruction activities commenced immediately after Shusha was liberated. Over the past few years, the city has seen significant development. The occupation had led to the destruction of cities and infrastructure, devastation of historical and cultural heritage, displacement of citizens, massacres, environmental disruption, paralysis of socio-economic life, and severe damage to historical identity and cultural memory.
Karimov noted that Shusha houses nearly 200 historical and cultural monuments, many of which were destroyed or damaged during the occupation. He stated that 27 monuments have now been restored, including seven mosques, six springs, seven cultural sites, Shusha Castle, the monument to Uzeyir Hajibeyli, the Molla Panah Vagif Mausoleum, and the Khanlig Mukhtar Caravanserai located in the Mulberry Garden.
