Baku: President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan attended the SCO Plus format meeting held in the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek, at the Yrys Ordo Congress Hall. President Aliyev was welcomed by the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sadyr Zhaparov, alongside other heads of state and government officials. The meeting commenced with a family photo session featuring all participants.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, President Aliyev expressed his gratitude to President Zhaparov for the invitation and hospitality extended during the meeting. Aliyev highlighted the recent signing of the Treaty on Allied Relations during his state visit to Kyrgyzstan, emphasizing its significance in elevating the bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan to new heights.
In his address, President Aliyev congratulated Kyrgyzstan on its socio-economic achievements and its election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2027-2028, which he viewed as a testament to the international community’s support for Kyrgyzstan’s policies. He also addressed the peace agreement initialed between Azerbaijan and Armenia, which ended a 30-year-long conflict, transforming the South Caucasus into a zone of peace.
President Aliyev reflected on the implementation of four UN Security Council resolutions from 1993, noting that Azerbaijan restored its sovereignty and territorial integrity independently, without direct UN intervention. He called for the development of mechanisms to ensure swift implementation of such resolutions in the future, aiming to enhance the UN’s prestige in conflict resolution. Aliyev reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to strengthening multilateralism, following its four-year chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement.
The speech concluded with President Zhaparov thanking Aliyev for his comprehensive address, emphasizing the importance of broad dialogue for building a fair and multipolar world.
