Baku: Azerbaijan’s strategic geographical position and infrastructure development can significantly support the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in enhancing cooperation across Eurasia, according to Khalid Taimur Akram, Executive Director of the Pakistan Research Center for a Community with Shared Future (PRCCSF) Islamabad. In an interview with AZERTAC, Akram emphasized the country’s pivotal role as a link between Asia and Europe through its modern transport routes.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Akram pointed out the potential contributions Azerbaijan can make in the energy sector. With its extensive experience in energy cooperation and infrastructure development, Azerbaijan is well-positioned to forge international partnerships and create new opportunities for collaboration within the SCO.
Akram highlighted Azerbaijan’s established political and economic relations with several SCO member states, which could facilitate enhanced dialogue, trade, investment, and cooperation. He identified key areas where Azerbaijan could add value to the SCO, including transport connectivity, energy cooperation, trade, logistics, digital connectivity, culture, tourism, and people-to-people relations.
The expert further noted that Azerbaijan’s deeper engagement with the SCO could open up new avenues for expanding its cooperation with the organization’s countries. He expressed optimism that Azerbaijan’s growing involvement with the SCO would benefit both parties, fostering a more connected and prosperous Eurasian region.
