Man Accused of Joining Illegal Armed Group Sentenced to 5 Years in Baku

Baku: The final court hearing has been held in the criminal case of Real Nabiyev, who was detained by the State Security Service of Azerbaijan and accused of participating in the activities of an illegal armed group abroad, APA reports. The verdict was announced during the session held at the Baku Court on Grave Crimes under the chairmanship of Judge Vugar Guliyev.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Real Nabiyev was sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment. He will serve his sentence in a general-regime correctional facility. Notably, Real Nabiyev was detained as a result of an operation conducted by the State Security Service.

Real Nabiyev was charged under Articles 12.1 and 279.1, which pertain to participation in the activities of armed groups not envisaged by the legislation of the Republic of Azerbaijan, of the Criminal Code.
