Isco-Inspired Real Betis Deny Real Madrid Return to LaLiga’s Top Spot

Madrid: Real Madrid were denied a return to LaLiga’s top spot in a 2-1 loss to Real Betis, APA reports citing Yahoo Sports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Brahim Daz broke the deadlock ten minutes into the match. He capitalized on a perfect setup by Ferland Mendy and finished into an empty net after Kylian Mbapp©’s defense-splitting pass.

However, Real Betis responded with Isco orchestrating an equalizer. Isco, facing his former club, assisted Johnny Cardoso to level the score later in the first half.

The turning point came shortly after the interval when Isco scored from the penalty spot. Antonio Rdiger’s foul on Jesºs Rodrguez led to the penalty, which Isco converted, putting the hosts in the lead.

This result means Real Madrid failed to overtake Barcelona at the top of LaLiga. The defending champions remain just behind Barcelona, with goal difference being the only separator, as Barcelona is set to face Real Sociedad on Sunday.
