Iran Begins Collection of Flare Gas from Eight Oil Fields

Tehran: Iran has initiated the collection of flare gas from eight local oil fields, as announced by Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad during the launch event of the NGL-3100 plant. The oil fields involved in this initiative include Azer, Cheshmekhosh, Dalpari, Paydare-Sharg, Paydare-Gharb, Aban, Dehloran, and Danan.

According to Trend News Agency, Minister Paknejad detailed that the newly commissioned NGL-3100 plant is equipped to process 240 million cubic feet, or approximately 6.8 million cubic meters, of flare gas daily. The plant’s commissioning aims to curb the burning of flare gas, diminish environmental pollution, and optimize the utilization of Iran’s hydrocarbon resources.

Paknejad further noted that the plant is currently operational at a capacity of processing around 80 million cubic feet, which translates to nearly 2.26 million cubic meters, of flare gas each day.

Iran’s energy sector comprises 74 oil fields and 22 gas fields that are currently active. Within the National Company of Iran’s Southern Oil Zones, there are 37 oil fields, while the Iranian Central Oil Zones Company oversees 14 fields. The Arvandan Oil and Gas Production Company operates five fields, and the Offshore Oil Company manages 18 fields. Furthermore, the South Oil Zones National Company of Iran runs five gas fields, the Central Oil Zones Company manages 13, the Pars Oil and Gas Company operates one, and the Offshore Oil Company oversees three.

The total hydrocarbon reserves in Iran amount to 1.2 trillion barrels. With the current technological equipment, Iran is capable of producing 340 billion barrels of gas. However, only about 30 percent of these reserves can be utilized, leaving 70 percent untapped underground.
