Internationally Wanted Murder Suspect to Face Extradition from Germany to Azerbaijan

Baku: A person accused of intentional murder will be extradited to Azerbaijan, the Press Service of the Prosecutor General’s Office told APA.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, in accordance with the requirements of the European Convention on Extradition dated December 13, 1957, the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office for the extradition of Georgian citizen Elshan Shamilov was granted by the competent authorities of the Federal Republic of Germany.

‘It was established on reasonable suspicion during the criminal investigation conducted by the Narimanov District Prosecutor’s Office of Baku city that Elshan Shamilov, in prior collusion with Afghan Aliyev and Hidayat Hasanov, committed a deadly attack on an apartment on July 30, 1993 for mercenary motives, killing one person, and later committed other crimes together with the mentioned individuals at various times. For this reason, a decision was made to charge Elshan Shamilov as an accused person, and since he absconded from the investigation and went into hiding, an international search was declared for him through the National Central Bureau of Interpol in Azerbaijan on May 8, 2025. As a result of operational-search measures, he was identified and detained in Germany,’ the statement said.

It was noted that measures are currently being taken by the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice to bring Elshan Shamilov to Azerbaijan. At the same time, the Prosecutor General’s Office continues close cooperation with foreign partner agencies, including Interpol, in order to locate wanted persons abroad and bring them to the Republic of Azerbaijan.
