Global Stock Markets Show Mixed Performance

New York:Mostly positive trends were recorded across global stock markets as major indices rose in the United States, while mixed results were observed in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, the Dow Jones index in the United States rose by 556.21 points, or 1.08%, reaching 52,177.69 points. The S&P 500 index increased by 25.12 points, or 0.33%, to 7,744.06 points, and the Nasdaq Composite index gained 20.16 points, or 0.08%, to 26,713.03 points. Additionally, the NYSE Composite index rose by 0.84% to 24,066.65 points, while Canada’s S&P/TSX Composite index increased by 1.55% to 36,137.10 points.

In Europe, the stock markets experienced varied outcomes. The Euro Stoxx 50 index declined by 0.36% to 6,168.26 points. The UK’s FTSE 100 index saw an increase of 1.08% to 10,840.35 points. Germany’s DAX index rose by 0.33% to 25,382.62 points, and France’s CAC 40 index gained 0.78% to 7,934.70 points. However, Spain’s IBEX 35 index fell by 0.28% to 19,177.70 points.

The Asia-Pacific region also displayed mostly positive results, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 index increasing by 1,152.40 points, or 1.79%, to 65,578.35 points, while the TOPIX index gained 71.16 points, or 1.78%, reaching 4,070.50 points. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index rose by 1.21% to 24,353.69 points, and China’s CSI 300 index increased by 0.75% to 4,197.46 points. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 index gained 1.12% to 8,817.10 points, though the broader MSCI AC Asia Pacific index declined by 2.92% to 261.15 points.

The mixed market performance was attributed to declining bond yields in the United States and concerns about the profitability of investments in the artificial intelligence sector. The decrease in the yield on 10-year Treasury bonds to approximately 5.09% supported equities in the U.S., alongside positive quarterly financial results and increased buying activity in healthcare, financial, and consumer sectors. However, sell-offs in shares of artificial intelligence and semiconductor companies limited gains in the Nasdaq Composite index.

In Europe, strong corporate financial results, particularly in the healthcare sector, bolstered the British, German, and French indices, while declines in technology stocks affected the broader European index. In Asia, high investment costs for artificial intelligence infrastructure, rising inflation in the United States, and the possibility of the Federal Reserve raising interest rates heightened investor caution.
