Baku: On May 1, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov received Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, who is on a visit to the country, MFA told APA. During the meeting, it was emphasized that cooperation between Azerbaijan and the International Committee of the Red Cross is long-term and based on trust, and the importance of continuing regular contacts between the parties was noted.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, humanitarian activities carried out by the International Committee of the Red Cross in the region were discussed, and the importance of Azerbaijan’s support for these efforts was highlighted. Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov noted that Azerbaijan has always remained committed to humanitarian principles amid regional tensions and military operations, including providing humanitarian assistance to Iran during periods when military operations were ongoing there.
It was stated that armed conflicts in the modern era mainly result in severe consequences for civilians, and the importance of increasing the efforts of the international community in this direction was emphasized. In this context, Azerbaijan’s commitment to international law and international humanitarian law, as well as its consistent adherence to these principles, was particularly highlighted.
During the meeting, steps taken to establish peace and stability in the region in the post-conflict period were also discussed. Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov informed the other side about the efforts aimed at advancing the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as strengthening mutual trust. Other issues of mutual interest were also discussed during the meeting.
