Baku: Mukhtar Babayev, the Representative of the President of Azerbaijan for Climate Issues, stated that the First General Assembly of the Global South NGO Platform signifies the realization of a significant vision. This assembly, held on the sidelines of Baku Urban Week, is not only an institutional milestone but also a testimony to the spirit of solidarity, dialogue, and cooperation that emerged during COP29 in Azerbaijan. It underscores Azerbaijan’s commitment to enhancing South-South cooperation and establishing inclusive international platforms for dialogue and practical action.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Babayev emphasized that the platform is designed to be a catalyst for action rather than merely a venue for discussion. The convening of the General Assembly in Baku is a testament to the actualization of this vision.
Babayev extended his gratitude to the NGOs, volunteers, experts, and civil society representatives whose contributions were pivotal to the success of COP29. He acknowledged the critical role they played, from consolidating ideas and proposals to engaging in awareness-raising activities in the Green Zone and various pavilions. These efforts significantly fostered trust, dialogue, and inclusiveness throughout the COP29 process.
