Washington: US President Donald Trump announced that the United States is actively prohibiting Israel from launching any further attacks on Lebanon as a nascent ceasefire takes hold.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Trump stated on his Truth Social platform, “Israel will not be bombing Lebanon any longer. They are prohibited from doing so by the U.S.A. Enough is enough!!” He emphasized that the Lebanon-Israel ceasefire is completely separate from ongoing discussions with Iran. Trump assured that Washington will continue to “work with Lebanon, and deal with the (Hezbollah) situation in an appropriate manner.” This statement references the Lebanese Hezbollah, which the US and Israel have long aimed to disarm.
Trump’s announcement of a 10-day ceasefire in Lebanon commenced at midnight local time in Tel Aviv and Beirut. Over the past 45 days, more than 2,196 people have been killed and 7,185 wounded due to Israeli attacks on Lebanon, with over 1 million people displaced, according to official figures.
In October 2023, Israel launched a war on Lebanon, and although a ceasefire was declared in November the following year, Israel continued to violate it daily before intensifying its offensive on March 2. Israel occupies areas in southern Lebanon, some held for decades and others since its renewed ground offensive this year.
