Chinese Ambassador: WAICO to Advance the Safe and Equitable Development of AI


Baku: ‘The World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO), initiated by China, will contribute to the establishment of a global governance system for artificial intelligence and promote its development for the benefit of humanity,’ Chinese Ambassador to Azerbaijan Lu Mei said at a reception marking the 99th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army.



According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the ambassador emphasized that two weeks earlier, Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai. During the conference, he highlighted the importance of a people-centered approach and urged all countries to foster the positive development of artificial intelligence for the benefit of humankind. This approach, as noted by the ambassador, sets the strategic direction for the future development and governance of AI.



WAICO, launched by China with 29 founding member states, represents an important milestone in AI development, the ambassador elaborated. The organization aims to promote AI capacity building, strengthen global governance cooperation, and advance the safe, equitable, and orderly development of AI for the benefit of humanity.



Lu Mei further stated that WAICO seeks to support the modernization of all countries, welcomes new members, and encourages AI cooperation for shared development. She reaffirmed China’s commitment to peaceful development and resolving differences through dialogue, underscoring the country’s dedication to using AI as a tool for global progress and harmony.
