Caspian Sea Level Decline Raises Concerns at Environmental Summit

Turkmenbashi:President Ilham Aliyev has warned that the ongoing shallowing of the Caspian Sea could lead to catastrophic outcomes.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, President Aliyev addressed the issue during the Caspian Environmental Summit, highlighting a significant reduction in the sea’s surface area, which has decreased by over 20,000 square kilometers.

The Azerbaijani leader emphasized that the decline in water levels affects not only the environment but also the economic and social interests of the surrounding states. The receding shoreline and changing ecosystem are creating operational challenges for ports and coastal infrastructure. In Azerbaijan’s section of the Caspian, nearly 30,000 hectares of dry land have emerged due to this decline.
