Baku: In the first half of 2026, Azerbaijan’s natural gas exports to the European Union (EU) increased by 3%, or 0.2 billion cubic meters, compared to the same period last year.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, this information was revealed in a report by the International Energy Agency (IEA).
The report outlines that during the same period, gas supplies through pipelines from North African countries to the EU saw an increase of 5%, amounting to 0.8 billion cubic meters. This reflects a broader trend of increasing natural gas imports by the EU from various regions.
Additionally, the IEA report highlighted that Russia’s gas exports to the EU via pipelines also grew by 5%, equating to a 0.4 billion cubic meter increase year-on-year for the first half of 2026. Despite this growth, the report notes that the share of Russian gas transported via pipelines accounted for approximately 8% of Europe’s gas demand during this period.
The transportation of Azerbaijani gas to Europe is facilitated by the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), which began operations on December 31, 2020. This development is part of Azerbaijan’s efforts to expand its energy export markets and strengthen its role as a key energy supplier to Europe.
