Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to the Holy See Engages in Dialogue with Sicilian Bishop


Baku: Azerbaijan’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Holy See, Ilgar Mukhtarov, recently met with Monsignor Antonino Raspanti, Bishop of Acireale and President of the Sicilian Bishops’ Conference, as reported by APA.



According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the meeting was conducted at the Acireale Episcopal Palace. Both leaders discussed topics of mutual interest, including intercultural exchange, dialogue between different communities, development of cooperation, and the promotion of peace and coexistence. They also explored the roles of diplomacy and church institutions in fortifying dialogue and mutual respect.



During his visit, Ambassador Mukhtarov explored the historical and artistic significance of the Church of Acireale. Father Antonio Agostini, Director of the Diocesan Museum, guided the ambassador through the basilica, highlighting the Chapel of Saint Venera, the sundial, and works by artist Sciuti. The tour was also attended by parish priest Mario Fresta and Vice Parish Priest Rosario Pappalardo.



Concluding his visit, Ambassador Mukhtarov expressed gratitude for the hospitality and acknowledged the church’s rich historical, artistic, and spiritual contributions. He conveyed his thanks to Monsignor Raspanti for the warm reception and the fruitful discussions that took place.
