Sofia:A Language Fair took place in front of the Ivan Vazov National Theatre in Sofia, showcasing 20 European languages presented by 23 institutions. Among these, the Azerbaijani language was one of three languages from non-EU member states.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the event was organized by the Representation of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Translation in Bulgaria, in collaboration with language and cultural institutes from the EUNIC Bulgaria network and other cultural entities.
The Azerbaijani Language and Culture Center participated in the fair, highlighting Azerbaijani language and culture. A specially prepared language game, ‘Find the Similarities!’, allowed participants to identify similar words in Azerbaijani and Bulgarian, such as ‘chanta’ (bag) and ‘shorba’ (soup). This game attracted interest from a broad audience, including children and adults.
Interest in the Azerbaijani language increased noticeably at the fair, with visitors inquiring about learning opportunities, the educational process, and Azerbaijani culture. The fair’s activities are part of the Center’s efforts to promote Azerbaijani language and culture in Bulgaria and guide young people toward Turkology studies at Sofia University.
The Language Fair aims to boost foreign language learning interest and foster cultural ties.
