Baku: Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has reiterated that Azerbaijan’s approach remains consistent, emphasizing that opportunities for signing a peace agreement still exist. “The historic Washington Summit resulted in the adoption of a number of important and historic documents, accompanied by important declarations. In his address at the summit, President Ilham Aliyev declared that a period of peace had already begun for Azerbaijan, and subsequent developments and steps taken by the Azerbaijani side have clearly proven this,” Bayramov stated to journalists.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Bayramov highlighted the commitments from last year’s joint statement and subsequent declarations by Armenia. He mentioned that while it was anticipated that the peace agreement negotiations would conclude in August, specific actions such as constitutional amendments and the adoption of a new constitution in Armenia were necessary. This expectation was shared by both the Azerbaijani public and the international community.
Bayramov also noted that similar declarations had been made prior to Armenia’s previous parliamentary elections. He remarked that following the elections, the Armenian Prime Minister had indicated that the constitutional process was expected to advance by the year’s end.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Minister expressed that as these measures are implemented, there is optimism concerning Armenia’s adherence to its commitments. Bayramov concluded by affirming, “Our approach remains unchanged. Opportunities still exist for the process to continue and for the peace agreement to be signed.”
