Ryazan:An Azerbaijani citizen is facing deportation from Russia despite being married to a Russian woman, as reported by the local diaspora, according to APA’s Moscow bureau.
According to Azeri-Press news agency, police in Ryazan have imposed a 10-year entry ban on the Azerbaijani citizen, citing several administrative deportation decisions as the basis. The individual challenged this decision in a local court but was unsuccessful.
The man’s defense argued that the deportation was unlawful due to his marriage to a Russian citizen, his role in supporting the family, and his involvement in raising his wife’s minor children. Lawyers highlighted his intention to adopt the children, suggesting that the entry ban violated his right to family life.
However, a police representative stated in court that marriage to a Russian citizen alone does not establish sufficient ties to the country. The representative noted that the man had not attempted to legalize his status, was in Russia for temporary work, lacked property, and had not paid taxes.
Ultimately, the court upheld the entry ban, concluding that the arguments regarding his family circumstances were insufficient. The court determined that the plan to adopt his wife’s children did not qualify as an exceptional circumstance that would warrant overturning the entry ban due to excessive interference in his private and family life.
