Budva:Another Azerbaijani boxer has achieved victory by securing a gold medal at the European U-17 Championships.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Mahammadali Istamov, competing in the 57 kg category, triumphed over England’s John Elam with a 41 points decision in the final match. The judges scored the bout 2928, 3027, 2829, 2928, 2928 in favor of Istamov.
This victory contributed to Azerbaijan’s overall success at the championships, where they gathered a total of eight medals, including two golds. Prior to Istamov’s win, Jamila Muradli had also secured a gold medal in the 57 kg category. Additionally, Hasrat Mammadov (46 kg), Ismayil Nasirzade (52 kg), and Sama Abbasova (66 kg) won silver medals, while Gardash Rahimov (54 kg), Hidayat Mammadov (70 kg), and Khumar Jafarli (+80 kg) earned bronze medals.
The championship featured participation from 473 athletes, consisting of 314 boys and 159 girls, representing 40 different countries.
