Azerbaijan State Border Service Thwarts Drug Smuggling from Iran


Lankaran: Azerbaijan’s State Border Service (SBS) successfully intercepted a significant drug smuggling operation along the border with Iran. Measures to ensure the reliable protection of the state border and to combat the illegal circulation of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, and their precursors are being successfully continued, the State Border Service Press Center told APA.



According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the attempted violation of the state border from the Islamic Republic of Iran toward the Republic of Azerbaijan was prevented in the service area of the “Lankaran” border detachment of the State Border Troops. The operation resulted in the discovery and seizure of a total of 17 kilograms and 450 grams of narcotic substances, including 11.45 kg of marijuana and 6 kg of hashish. Additionally, 4,950 methadone M-40 tablets were confiscated in the area.



The State Border Service has stated that operational-investigative measures regarding the case are ongoing, underscoring its commitment to combating illegal drug trafficking along Azerbaijan’s borders.
