Azerbaijan Prepares Comprehensive Draft Law on Agriculture

Baku:A draft law titled ‘On the Agricultural Sector’ has been prepared in Azerbaijan and was submitted for discussion at the Milli Majlis Committee on Agrarian Policy meeting. The proposed legislation is structured into seven chapters and 28 articles.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, the draft law aims to establish the legal, organizational, social, and economic foundations for state regulation and support of the agricultural sector. It is designed to ensure sustainable development, enhance food security, and promote the prosperity of rural areas. Additionally, the law seeks to facilitate the production and initial processing of agricultural products, encourage adaptation to climate change, and advocate for the efficient use of agricultural land.

With the introduction of ‘On the Agricultural Sector,’ existing laws such as ‘On Grain,’ ‘On Tea Growing,’ ‘On Cotton Growing,’ and ‘On Agricultural Cooperation’ will be repealed, with their relevant provisions integrated into the new legislation. Other sector-specific laws will remain active and will be aligned with the new law under the ‘framework law – special laws’ model.
