Baku: Azerbaijan, Brazil, Trkiye, and Australia held consultations on the mandate of the ‘Bel©m Mission 1.5’ Troika from September 7 to 11 during the 4th Climate Week of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the concurrent Baku Climate Action Week, as reported by APA citing the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the events were hosted at the Baku Congress Center and organized by Azerbaijan, drawing approximately 2,700 delegates from over 140 countries. The week featured a total of 68 events, attended by state delegations and representatives from international organizations, non-governmental organizations, the private sector, and academia.
The UNFCCC Climate Week included eight mandated meetings focused on various aspects of the international climate agenda, following decisions made at the Conference of the Parties. These meetings were complemented by events hosted by the COP30 and COP31 presidencies and sessions within the UNFCCC Executive Forum. Parallel to these, Azerbaijan organized 37 events aligning with its COP29 Presidency’s Action Agenda and other relevant topics.
The consultations on the ‘Bel©m Mission 1.5’ Troika involved discussions on the implementation of National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), as mandated at COP30. The Troika comprises the COP29, COP30, and COP31 presidencies, which include Azerbaijan, Brazil, Trkiye, and Australia.
UNFCCC Climate Weeks are hosted on a rotational basis among UN regional groups. In 2026, the first Climate Week was held in April in the Republic of Korea, representing the Asia-Pacific region, while the second was hosted by Azerbaijan in the Eastern European region.
