Azerbaijan and Hungary Forge Collaboration on Water Management

Baku: The Azerbaijan Water Reserves Agency (ADSEA) and Hungary’s General Directorate of Water Management have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), as reported by Trend News Agency. This agreement was reached during the 2nd International Water Management Exhibition and Conference-Baku Water Week, held in Baku, Azerbaijan.

According to Trend News Agency, Hungary’s engagement in water management dates back to 1751 with the enactment of flood protection laws. This was further developed in 1782 with the founding of the “Institutum Geometrico-Hydrotechnicum” by Joseph II. Currently, the General Directorate of Water Management, known as Orsz¡gos Vzgyi Foigazgat³s¡g, serves as the national authority overseeing water-related issues.

The Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency, or ADSEA, was established through a presidential decree on March 30, 2023. Its formation aims to streamline the governance of hydrological resources and address water scarcity challenges within Azerbaijan. This agency was created by consolidating previous hydrological governance entities into a unified structure.
