Azerbaijan and Armenia Witness Growing Trust Amid Peace Efforts

Washington: There is a developing trust between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as highlighted by Khazar Ibrahim, Azerbaijani Ambassador to the U.S., during an interview with the Washington Examiner. Ibrahim noted that President Trump’s leadership has been pivotal in fostering peace efforts not only in the region but globally.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the ambassador emphasized the natural interest of the new U.S. administration in promoting peace and development. The Joint Declaration signed in Washington is a testament to the ongoing efforts to achieve a formal agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Ibrahim explained that the initialling by foreign ministers solidifies the current agreement, indicating that it is set and awaiting a formal signing.

The ambassador elaborated on the historical lack of trust between the two nations, attributing past conflicts and failed mediation attempts to this deficit. Although full trust has not been achieved, Ibrahim acknowledged the progress made, describing the current state as a “growing, developing trust.”

Ibrahim also highlighted the necessity of a global leader to facilitate the finalization of peace deals, citing the election of President Trump as a significant turning point in these efforts. He pointed out that territorial claims in the Armenian Constitution remain a challenge, but expressed hope for a resolution that would allow for the signing of a final peace agreement in the near future.
